Never saw THAT coming

WOW... it wasn't even suppose to be close.

The challenger was not even top 10 ranked... came out of nowhere with bold moves, and a nothing to lose attitude that left everything on the table.
After vanquishing his foes in the preliminaries, the experts said the title match would be a blow out.
How could the pundits be so WRONG?!?

In the end it was thisclose, and the best man won... Magnus Calsen beat Segey Karjakin to claim the 2016 World Chess Championship crown.

WCC races are crazy... I am sure we are all super glad THAT is over... just can't handle that crackling back and forth, and crazy exchanges (I mean who swaps a bishop for a rook?).
It is time for the world to heal, put aside their differences and rally around Magnus.
We may not all like or appreciate him, but we won and I for one believe he will serve as a good, humble, selfless champion and bring together foes from across the board, both white and black, pawn to Queen, knight and bishop.

So after all that drama, Heather and I needed a break, time to step away and think on not only the above contentious race, but all things 2016.
And nothing says "quietly and contemplatively ponder life events" like an adventurous backpack trip to an exotic land far far away from things of chess.

But before we plunge into the details of the upcoming trip, lets reflect a little on the past year shenanigans with your favorite Bacchusesessses.

Check out the next few entries, then we will jump right into the back pack adventure details.

Oh and of course, those of you NEW to our misadeventures probably need a reference point when the minds eye transports you away to one of our crazy locales... this is US (I am the ogre to the left of beautiful princess).

  1. Ahem. The chess champion is Magnus Carlsen not Calsen. Your editor needs a big raise so they can dedicate their time to insuring that no more typos make it to print.
