a very long walk in the woods

We woke up at the crack of dawn from a surprisingly comfortable sleep... jungle camp bunk beds, who knew?
Day 2 - Camp 1 to the base of the lost city
As mentioned previously, we were on an accelerated scheduled, which meant today we were humping some serious miles, most of which were up.

The sun wasted no time in assaulting us on the trail...

The Sierra Nevada region is still home to several indigenous tribes, including the Kogis (the original inhabitants of the lost city).
They are super shy and quiet people, who largely ignore the westerners traipsing through their giant, beautiful jungle backyards.

Met a new friend...

Finally arrived at the base camp... only an hour away from the prize, but that would have to wait until the next morning.
For now it was all about a refreshing dip in a bracing mountain pool to cool down...
