Narcos, Rebels, Tomb Raiders oh my!

For hundreds of years pre Colombus, the Kogi Indians, built and lived in a city called Teyuna high in Sierra Nevada mountain range, nestled in dense jungle forest.
Shortly before Cristobal Colombus showed up to ruin the party, the Indians abandoned the city, no one is quite sure as to why.
The jungle quickly reclaimed it and there it sat, relatively undisturbed until the mid 1970s.
First, came the tomb raiders, stripping it of its gold.
Then, left wing guerrillas fighting the government.
Then, Narcos growing cocaine.
Then, right wing guerrillas fighting the government.

It has only been in the past few years, that things finally settle down, to allow random adventure seekers to get a crack... without tons and tons and tons of tourist clowns (like Machu Picchu), the city is pristine and beautiful.

There is no bus, no off road, no train... just gotta walk and walk and walk.
The hike usually takes 6 days, but Heather and I had places to be, so we opted for a more accelerated hiking regiment, and planned for 4 days instead.

Day 1 started out from the small village of El Mamey and hiked up...

Ridiculously beautiful vistas, lush, green and vibrant.

 Crossed several small jungle streams...

Finally stopped climbing, and just enjoyed the view, with a little help from some watermelon.

Late in the afternoon, made camp at the first stop.
Our clothes were soaking wet... one set to hike in, one set to sleep in...

Bunk beds and again, Riad on top.
