Holy Toledo

On the recommedation of a friend (Agi S), who went to school in this city, we decide to day trip to Toledo, only a 30 min train ride from Madrid.
As a kid, I loved stories of knights and castles and beautiful princesses... the old city center in Toledo is that place... a wonderful citadel with fortified battlements, winding cobblestone streets, ancient metal studded doors, and a majestic cathedral.

Entering the old city through the Puerta Bisurga...

Heather looking back on the long hike up to the old city. We walked from the bus terminal only a mile away, BUT completely uphill... yes, our asses look fantastic.

View from the top....

My princess in a tower... well just up some stairs, but it was bloody difficult to climb up to rescue her.

Winding cobblestone streets...

Picking out a gift for some of my clients (I am talking to you Marty)...

Local checking us out...

View across the river, that guy has an amazing view...

The cathedral... stunning. I swear if churches at home looked like this, I would be there every Sunday...

I love these doors...

Locals are so much fun...

Toledo is famous for its Mazapan (a sweet made with almond, sugar and water). This shop was run by nuns, and their treats were heavenly.

At night, the city takes on an even more medieval feel...

A late train back to Madrid, bidding Western Europe goodbye, it is off to Cairo...
