Heather was not interested in being served for dinner again, so instead we chose a more traditional method of travel... a felucca, the small Nubian sail boats mentioned earlier.
The plan was to spend 3 days and 2 night lazily making our way up the Nile to just outside Luxor, a trip of about 100km. We talked to a few captains and finally struck a deal with Said and his crew, Mahoud and Hassan.
Meeting the boat...
Said did not join us, but left us in the capable hands of Mahoud.
The Nubian culture is very conservative, so there was no board shorts and bikinis, but did not stop us from attaining another level of rest and relaxation...
Hassan cooking us up lunch...
I know what you are thinking... how could a 19 year old Nubian with a burner, a pot and some staples make anything resembling an edible meal? Seriously, these were by far the most delicious food we had in Egpyt.
The kid could give Top Chef a run for their money.
All kinds of others sharing the river, from cruise ships to this dude trying to catch dinner for his village...
We stopped a few times (mostly for bathroom breaks) and occasionally to meet the locals. This guy was actually quite the handsome camel, very well groomed.
Epic battle between team Nubian and team Clownary, fought with dominos... team Nubia crushed us.
My 8x10 for J Crew catalog...
Sing with me now... Ohhhhh, there ain't no bugs on me, there ain't no bugs on me...
I cannot recommend this enough... DON'T ride a camel without a SADDLE...
