Don't look at his nose, don't look at the nose... Damn!!! what a magnificent nose

After a lovely day strolling around Kuching, it was back to the jungle and this time, no screwing around... we headed to the Holy Grail of Bornean National parks... Bako.
Located on the tip of a penisula jutting into the South China Sea, the park is only accessible by boat, from the tiny fishing village of Bako Bazaar.
The park is famous for the wildlife and the fact it is their place, you're just a guest.

The boat ride was a doozy due to the spontaneous rain storm and choppy seas, with Heather turning a delightful shade of green.

A few bearded pigs, sporting classic Victorian mutton chops, greeted us on the beach.

We wasted no time hitting the trails, humping it through some significantly more gnarly jungle than the first park to a beautiful cliff look out, then down to Telok Pandan Kecil beach.

Heading back, exhaustion turn to exhilaration, when we saw the park's most famous residents, a family of Proboscis monkeys chillin in the trees.

Hazard of jungle living...

Later that afternoon, we meet up with some other backpackers and swapped stories and travel plans... by the time dinner rolled around, Heather and I had completely retooled our trip based on recent experiences.
This is why we LOVE to backpack.
Some random Aussie will tell you about a great cave or curry house or hill to climb and BAM, you are going here instead of there.

We ended the night with a guided jungle walk, to try to spot some of the nocturnal residents. The night started promising, with a flying lemur, gliding from tree to tree, then devolved into spiders, spiders and more spiders, along with scorpions and a snake for good measure, pretty much freaked me... err us out completely about the jungle.
The night ended with a torrential downpour while a kilometer into the jungle... we were so wet, our souls needed to be rung out and dried.
